Grains Bakery is known for its welcoming atmosphere, freshly baked goods and unique breads. The moment you walk through the door, you leave the last cold winter days behind to enter the warm world of Grains.
Owners Bernadette and Michael Pitcher started this tasty venture in 2005 and have been a key component of the Courtenay community ever since.
“We believe our relaxed atmosphere and wholesome baked goods are the perfect complement to the bustling small city of Courtenay,” says Michael. “We take immense pride in our artisan recipes; everything is handmade with a lot of love, an excellent eye for quality and no preservatives. We feel we’re meeting a real need for locally made, one-of-a-kind breads.”
Attracting loyal customers from all over the Island, Grains does more than simply cater to their patrons’ breakfast and lunch needs. With their Good To Go section, they have dinner covered as well.
“With 20 gourmet meals created by our chef, you are literally good to go,” says Michael. “The vegetables and meat are bought locally and the herbs come straight from our own herb garden. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just craving an easy to prepare, healthy meal, Good To Go is all you need.”
While word has spread fast about Grains Bakery, what most people never get to see is the real magic that goes on behind the scenes at this cosy bakery. Taking a look on the other side of the bistro is like opening the door to Narnia; you step into a whole new world . . .
An oven the size of a bedroom, hundreds of fresh loaves, bagels, buns, scones, cookies and anything else your sweet tooth desires is there to behold. Most of these breads don’t move to the bakery, however; they get shipped to 120 restaurants and other food service facilities all over the Island and beyond.
From Gold River to Cortes, Parksville, Port Alice, Campbell River and more, Grains Bakery is supplying the Island’s finest establishments with specialty breads that keep their own customers returning again and again.
Grans Bakery is located at 445 10th Street in Courtenay and online at www.grainsbakery.ca.
