We are excited to announce the inaugural Comox Valley Women’s Health Symposium. It will be held on February 3rd and 4th, 2018 as the next installment of the Dave Battinson Memorial Lecture Series.
Our vision is to bring together women in the valley with the local health care practitioners who work to improve their physical and mental health. We have a full schedule of dedicated local professionals who work with women in the community every day. They are well prepared to provide the latest research and recommendations with plenty of discussion time to answer any questions that you may have.
The presentations scheduled for Saturday, February 3rd are designed for women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant soon. As presenters, we will have a local doctor, a women’s health physiotherapist, a lactation consultant, and a counsellor who specializes in working with new mothers. They will share valuable information about pre and postpartum health, current recommendations on exercise in pregnancy, research and resources related to lactation and infant feeding, and the importance of managing maternal mental health during the shift into motherhood.
The program on Sunday, February 4th is focused on maintaining and improving the physical and mental health of women of all ages and backgrounds. We will have a local doctor discussing women-specific health concerns and their management, two pelvic floor physiotherapists providing information on pelvic floor health and the unique challenges it can present for women throughout life.
There is a counsellor with expertise in sport psychology facilitating discussion to challenge notions of body image and what being healthy truly means, plus a counsellor with a special interest in women’s issues presenting a workshop on putting it all together to balance all aspects of health: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
The event is at the beautiful Kingfisher Oceanfront Resort and Spa. Snacks, lunch, and refreshments will be catered by the Aqua Bistro on site and included in the admission price. The beautiful location and adjacent Pacific Mist Spa and Hydropath make it an ideal venue for a weekend of rest, relaxation, and self-care. Thanks to the generous help of our sponsors, the cost for the symposium will only be $75 per day.
The weekend is an amazing opportunity for women in the valley to learn more about managing their own health, discover local resources available in the valley, and get to know some of the dedicated health care practitioners who are here to support them. It would also be of benefit to anyone involved in the health care or fitness industry interested in expanding their knowledge in the field of women’s health.
Our website is in the process of being updated and will be up and running shortly at www.goplay

We look forward to seeing you at the Kingfisher in February!
