Lori Ball discovered her passion for paleontology when she found a nautilus while fossil hunting on her first date with her husband. Fired up with her newfound love of fossil hunting, she decided to combine it with her love of working with youth, thanks to her educational background in social work and special needs education, and start Comox Valley Fossil Adventures.
Over the past three years, she has seen a huge increase in the number of tours she provides in the peak season summer months. Her clients are also becoming quite varied, from school groups, to B&B tourists to corporate groups as word is spreading that the Comox Valley is a hotbed for fossil hunting.
Lori was surprised that what started as a passion has become a viable business, but to her, the reward remains the same. “Seeing that look on a child’s face as they uncover a fossil that has never been seen by the human eye is what it is all about,” she says.
